Introduction
Yayasan Sime Darby (YSD) or the Sime Darby Foundation is the main philanthropic arm of Sime Darby Berhad. Over the years, the Foundation has expanded its wings from offering scholarships to outstanding and deserving individuals to funding impactful conservation, outreach and development programmes.
The Foundation revolves around its five pillars:
a. EDUCATION
b. ENVIRONMENT
c. COMMUNITY & HEALTH
d. YOUTHS & SPORTS
e. ARTS & CULTURE
The Foundation is governed by an esteemed Council and managed by a dedicated team to carry out impactful work, whilst working closely with the Sime Darby Group in areas of common concern. YSD celebrated its 30th anniversary in June 2012, a substantially important milestone for Sime Darby.
YSD welcomes sponsorship applications that enables it to fulfill its Vision and Mission, and achieve the objectives in each of its five pillars.
Under its “Education” pillar, YSD dedicates itself to promoting the human quest for learning, knowledge, meaning, goodwill and understanding. The Foundation endeavours to offer wisdom, expertise and assistance at all levels of education, where these can promote and advance what people believe they can achieve, especially the underprivileged. YSD supports initiatives that reduce gaps in access to quality education between urban and rural societies, and those that improve access to basic education for the marginalised.
Yayasan Sime Darby (YSD) offers scholarships annually to deserving Malaysian students who wish to pursue higher learning education. Scholarships offered by YSD fall in three different categories, Excellence Scholarships Program, Skill Enrichment Program and Bursary Program.
Those wishing to apply for these scholarships must be well-rounded candidates who wish to study full-time, locally or overseas. The YSD scholarships are also offered to “special needs” or OKU students as well as students from low income families who managed to achieve satisfactory exam results.
